Nicholas O'Gwin CFP®

President, O'Gwin Planning

Nick O’Gwin is the founding principal of O'Gwin Planning, an independent financial services firm dedicated to providing thoughtful financial guidance to families. His journey in the financial advisory world began in 2005 when he joined Ameriprise Financial. There, Nick developed his practice, gaining recognition for his dedication and skill.

In 2007, Nick took on the role of managing a team of advisors in Columbia, Maryland, later transferring to a similar role in Gaithersburg, MD. His leadership during these years was marked by a collaborative approach and a commitment to the growth of his team and the satisfaction of their clients.

Choosing to refocus on his personal life and direct client interaction, Nick stepped away from his management position in 2009. This decision was driven by the desire to spend more time with his wife, Nancy, and their daughters, Alex and Sydney, born in 2009 and 2011, respectively. These personal milestones led Nick to leave Ameriprise Financial in 2011 and establish O'Gwin Planning, aiming to offer more personalized and independent financial advice.

Nick's educational background includes a B.A. in Management with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Global Economy from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. He has also met the Certified Financial Planning Board of Standards CFP® certification requirements, becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner. This blend of practical experience and formal education underpins his approach to financial planning, emphasizing tailored advice that aligns with each client’s unique situation and goals.

Nick O’Gwin’s career reflects a balance between professional growth, leadership, and a commitment to family and client-focused service, underscoring his belief in the importance of personal relationships in financial planning.
